EFFECTIVENESS OF NATURAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROJECTS IN GEORGIA

Summary

Natural disasters have increased with climate change. The amount of damage caused by the disaster has increased. During the last 40 years, the economic damage amounted to 14 billion dollars in Georgia. Consequently, in such conditions, different activities and projects implemented by the state in the field of prevention and preparedness are very important. This study presents several projects, despite the implementation of which it seems that there are still disadvantages in disaster risk reduction in Georgia.

The problem was identified in two main areas: inefficiency of project management and lack of coordination mechanisms. In particular, the state does not implement all stages of the project life cycle effectively, and also, coordination mechanisms are weak, so agencies and organizations involved in disaster risk reduction work on the same issue without communicating with each other.

In order to improve the current situation, it is important to prepare a guide document, which will define the preconditions for the implementation of the project in accordance with better international practice and will make it necessary to comply with them. There is also a need to strengthen coordination mechanisms and create communication channels for stakeholder communication.
